I first realized that I was a seasoned mom when my child threw up onto the kitchen floor and the first words that came out of my mouth were “She really needs to chew her food better.” My partner and I moved like a well-orchestrated military clean-up operation of teamwork and precision to take care of the unfortunate mess that was our kitchen floor and our child. 8 years ago, this would have been a different story. It wouldn’t have been chaos, but this kind of teamwork and knowledge on what to do in such situations can only come through experience.
Hi, I’m Melissa, the matriarch of a happily blended family. What is a blended family? Well, it’s what used to be considered as all kinds of messed up, but today it’s more common and not really frowned upon – unless you have been living under a rock for the past 30 years. I have a son from my first marriage, my partner has a son from a previous relationship, and together we have a daughter. So, I’m a mom, a stepmom, and a life partner, everything else comes second.
I’ve started this blog because I have been writing for other people for over a year now and I figured, “well, why not?” Actually, I have been wanting to do this for a very long time. Everyone is unique and interesting and I am no exception. I have something valuable to add to this world and it’s time for me to do just that. When I’m not writing, I am a freelance kitchen designer, which really is a job that sounds far more glamorous than it actually is. I kind of fell into kitchens by accident after being in the beauty and skincare industry for 10 years… yeah, talk about a massive career change. I think that change is one of the best things about being human. No other species has the ability to change and adapt as we can, and many of the topics on this blog will relate back to that.
Every other article I have read about starting a blog has mentioned how a new blog has to have a niche to be successful. In all honesty, I don’t have a niche yet. I will be writing about things that I’m passionate about, and what I think people want or need to read. Parenting and step-parenting, relationships, my life-long struggle with psoriasis, skincare tips, arts and crafts, food and popular culture. Even reviews on books, music, and products are all things that I can see in the future for this blog. I’m also a little nuts, so don’t be surprised if you find an article titled “101 ways to playfully annoy your partner” at some point.
I also really want to hear from my readers. So please leave comments, tell me what you want to read about, share, and subscribe for more random ramblings from me, here at The Ginger Mouse.
